Tip: Categorizing images
[edit]
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.
[[Category:Category name]]
For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:
[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]
This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.CategorizationBot (talk) 12:26, 7 June 2011 (UTC)

Autopatrol given
[edit]Hello. I just wanted to let you know that I have granted autopatrol rights to your account; the reason for this is that I believe you are sufficiently trustworthy and experienced to have your contributions automatically marked as "reviewed". This has no effect on your editing, it is simply intended to make it easier for users that are monitoring Recent changes or Recent uploads to find unproductive edits amidst the productive ones like yours. In addition, the Flickr upload feature and an increased number of batch-uploads in UploadWizard, uploading of freely licensed MP3 files, overwriting files uploaded by others and an increased limit for page renames per minute are now available to you. Thank you. INeverCry 18:14, 21 September 2012 (UTC)

Copyright status: File:Cardo rosso semi 010010001 (1).jpeg
[edit]This media may be deleted. |
Thanks for uploading File:Cardo rosso semi 010010001 (1).jpeg. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.
If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.) If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there. Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you. |

Picture of the Year voting round 1 open
[edit]Dear Wikimedians,
Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the 2012 Picture of the Year competition is now open. We're interested in your opinion as to which images qualify to be the Picture of the Year for 2012. Voting is open to established Wikimedia users who meet the following criteria:
- Users must have an account, at any Wikimedia project, which was registered before Tue, 01 Jan 2013 00:00:00 +0000 [UTC].
- This user account must have more than 75 edits on any single Wikimedia project before Tue, 01 Jan 2013 00:00:00 +0000 [UTC]. Please check your account eligibility at the POTY 2012 Contest Eligibility tool.
- Users must vote with an account meeting the above requirements either on Commons or another SUL-related Wikimedia project (for other Wikimedia projects, the account must be attached to the user's Commons account through SUL).
Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year are all entered in this competition. From professional animal and plant shots to breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historically relevant images, images portraying the world's best architecture, maps, emblems, diagrams created with the most modern technology, and impressive human portraits, Commons features pictures of all flavors.
For your convenience, we have sorted the images into topic categories. Two rounds of voting will be held: In the first round, you can vote for as many images as you like. The first round category winners and the top ten overall will then make it to the final. In the final round, when a limited number of images are left, you must decide on the one image that you want to become the Picture of the Year.
To see the candidate images just go to the POTY 2012 page on Wikimedia Commons
Wikimedia Commons celebrates our featured images of 2012 with this contest. Your votes decide the Picture of the Year, so remember to vote in the first round by January 30, 2013.
Thanks,
the Wikimedia Commons Picture of the Year committee

No APWebsite sites Ceuthostoma so please don't suppress it from the list). J'ignore vos raisons -et vôtre question (But why are you telling me that ? Pace e salute.--philmarin (talk) 11:04, 17 November 2014 (UTC)
- Salut Phil (If you are not french, just tell me I will talk english ;-))
- C'était le sens de mon explication dans le revert: "APWebsite sites Ceuthostoma so please don't suppress it from the list".
- C'est comme si tu remplaçais:
- Jacques Chirac a dit le 6 nov 2007 "What do you want ? Me to go back to my plane, and go back to France" par
- Jacques Chirac a dit le 6 nov 2007 "If you don't stop immediately, I will go back to france right away".

- J'ai reçu une réponse de APGweb: RE: FEEDBACK for Moraceae list of genera - http://www.mobot.org/mobot/research/apweb/genera/moraceaegen.html - Thanks (and for your other message). The generic lists are sometimes (very) inaccurate, since I don't have time to change them. However, I will certainly clear these problems up - I will load a new page at the end of the day. Peter Stevens.
- Ce qui explique le paramètre |genera=APWebsite ou |genera=vpfg de {{APWebsite}}
- ajouté |genera=vpfg à {{APWebsite}}
- remplacé source=APWebsite par source=Kew Vascular Plant dans {{Genera}}
- ajouté une ligne {{Kew vpfg}}
- {{APWebsite}}: paramètre genera= et paramètre source= à utiliser dans {{Genera}}
- {{Kew list}} et {{Kew vpfg}}:
- paramètre source= à utiliser dans {{Genera}}
Pace e salute.--philmarin (talk) 11:27, 23 November 2014 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading File:Westringia fruticosa-2 - Forest and Kim Starr.jpg.
Thank you. |

Small advices
[edit]- your change of genera list: GRIN website has changed and is now buggy. GRIN now displays list of genera AND synonyms (in the past valid genera were in bold). For example you added Atelandra which is a Syn.
- In fact {{Genera}} should not contain synonyms: here you added a lot of categories that you created empty
- You should not create empty categories like Category:Atelandra or you can only if they have redirect (but no category)
- Westringieae now contains 5 empty categories. This is not a good idea.

Pay attention to licensing
|
Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content: images and other media files that can be used by anyone, for any purpose.
File:MHN-1442735728715LlpalbYRsU0Uy489.jpg seems to be free (or it would be proposed for deletion), but it was identified as having a wrong license. Usually, it is because a public domain image is tagged with a free license, or because the stated source or other information is not sufficient to prove the selected tag is correct. Please verify that you applied the correct license tag for this file. If you believe this file has the correct license, please explain why on the file discussion page.

Wrong licence
[edit]Please do not change the copyright licence from the one on Flickr to a different one as you did with File:T.crocifolius.Flickr.jpg which has a cc-by-2.0 but you made it cc-by-sa-2.5. The copyright holder's licence must be respected, so please be more careful in future. If you uploaded other images that might also now be wrong please go back to them and correct the copyright tags. Thanks. Ww2censor (talk) 18:18, 20 November 2016 (UTC)
Photos de la série Andryale à feuilles entières by D. Villafruela
[edit]Bonjour Philmarin,
Ces photos avaient déjà donné lieu à discussion :
https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Projet:Botanique/Quelle_est_cette_plante_%3F/Archive_6

I have been looking through your uploads to the category Prostantheroidae, and they all appear to be copyright violations. For example the file nominated above links to the Seeds of SA page, which has a copyright notice At the bottom. Your upload gives no explantion of why it may be copyright free. Similarly, the file Chloanthes parviflora-atlas-wood-w.jpg li ks to an Atlas of Living Australia page with a notice stating that the page is copyright CSIRO. It appears that all your uploads are copyright violations. Is there any reason to belive these images are copyright free? Mark Marathon (talk) 07:46, 16 October 2017 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading File:Stemmacantha seedheads-2.jpg. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the {{No permission since}} tag with {{subst:PP}} on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.
Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own). The file probably has been deleted. If you sent a permission, try to send it again after 14 days. Do not re-upload. When the VRT-member processes your mail, the file can be undeleted. - Yeah, unfortunately, that's far too vague to be compatible with Commons:Licensing. (For example, it doesn't say whether modifications are allowed.) Gracias, —LX (talk, contribs) 18:12, 13 March 2018 (UTC)
Spanish butterflies
[edit]Hi Philmarin, I just want to inform you that this butterfly is actually an Issoria lathonia (see the many round black spots), and this one is actually a Melitaea phoebe (see e.g. the large third marginal lunule on the forewing). Can you please make the corrections? --LamBoet (talk) 20:44, 4 May 2018 (UTC)

File tagging File:(MAD) Feria Libro Corty-1.jpg
[edit]This media may be deleted.
|
Thanks for uploading File:(MAD) Feria Libro Corty-1.jpg.
Warning: unless the permission information is given, the file may be deleted after seven days. Thank you. |

See Commons:Licensing for the copyright policy on Wikimedia Commons, and Commons:Image casebook for some specific examples. Some other Wikimedia projects have different licensing policies. For example, the English Wikipedia allows fair use of sounds and photographs. This is not the case on Wikimedia Commons; "fair use" materials are not acceptable here.
Please make sure that you only upload educational content you have created yourself, those which are out of copyright, or those for which you have the required permission for the work to be used in all the ways described above. Please note that derivative works of copyrighted material are also considered copyrighted. Again, please read through Commons:Licensing, which is quite crucial, to understanding how Wikimedia Commons works. Thanks for your contribution, and please do leave me a message if you have further questions.Yours sincerely, — Racconish 💬 12:43, 26 January 2019 (UTC)
